About Us

United States
Lisa Podgornik and Kathy Revak are the owners of Northwoods Fiber Arts, LLC. We began our friendship through our daytime jobs as being co-workers. We found that we both shared some very similar attributes! It just so happened that Kathy made the mistake of showing how to master the simple knit stitch and away we went! We became completed obsessed with knitting! We soon became yarn horders and just couldn't get enough fiber in our greedy little paws. That was when we decided to seriously discuss a business venture. We were truly the luckiest two women in the world when we found our fairy godmother, Ruth Ralston! She is the one who allowed for this business venture to actually become a reality. We had a vision with our building and went to it with our wonderful families support and help. If it wasn't for them putting in just as much if not more sweat equity into the remodeling of the building, we would still be peeling carpet from the tile floor! Our grand opening was quite a success! It was standing room only. We had such a great support network and a very positive feedback from the people in the community. Ever since then it has been an amazing journey.

Lucinda Guy and So to Bed...

Today one of our fav clients, Joyce Wisherd, came into the store and showed us this most adorable knitted doll and the book that she took the pattern out of as well. Inside of this book are some very unique have-to-have finished projects. Check it out, Linda Guy (author) of And So To Bed... (Trafalgar Square Publishing).

NEW YARNS for a NEW YEAR!

Just in....new color in Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino and more Skacel Fortissima's Mexico Country Color Pack Sock Yarn!!!!!! I can't stand that I just don't have enough time in the day to knit with everything! It is a terrible compulsion, but what can I say...it could be worse, right?

Remember, our top-down cardigan class is coming up. If you have been pondering this one now is the time to jump in and go for it! Just think of all those cute one-of-a-kind sweaters that you could be knitting. My luck is when I find something that I just have to have in the stores and then wear it, it never fails that somebody else has the same exact one on! That's all the justification that I need to knit my own!

Anybody want to share their New Year's Resolution?

Knit to stay warm!!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR

Happy New Year from Kathy & Lisa at Northwoods Fiber Arts, LLC. We are very excited for 2009....We will be bringing some new yarns, patterns, books and notions. Lisa is currently working on her lightly felted sweater from Felted Knits. This sweater is knit from the bottom up and includes side slits, slits on the sleeves a v-neck and hood. On all of these openings also is an adorable embroidered paisley. This pattern is very simple and make a warm and cute sweater for skiing, skating or just hanging out. I will post a picture as soon as it is done. Kathy is working on her top-down cardigan for the class that she will be offering this month. If you are interested there is still time to sign up. Kathy says, "once you knit from the top down you will never have to seam again"!

We do have several copies of the new Felt Forward in the store and we have also reviewed and ordered the Debbie Bliss, Baby Knits. Now this is a must-have for those of you that want to knit they too-cute and too-simple outfits for that special baby or toddler. Over Christmas break, I knit 2 pairs of the little slippers for my new nephews in one afternoon! Just think...adorable, simple outfits knit with Debbie Bliss' Baby Cashmerino; now what would be more enjoyable?

Remember that we are now carrying Craig Faibert's (Tony, Wisconsin) exquisite wildlife prints that have been chosen for the DNR's stamp awards. Also, we have just recently been privileged to carry Andrea Schneeberg's beautiful embellished gourds! There are no words for the craftmanship of both of these artists work! You'll have to stop by and check them out! These are perfect for the hard-to-buy-for relative, friend or yourself!

Happy New Year and knit to stay warm!!!!
